Take Action with The Think & Grow Rich 13 Principles

by | Apr 19, 2018 | Course

For years I had heard that Think & Grow Rich was THE book to read for entrepreneurs, but I thought I could surmise it from the title and that that was enough.

I finally took the time to read it and was motivated to improve myself on so many levels. But, there were so many interesting pieces of information that inspired me to take action I knew I wouldn’t be able to do it all.

See, this happens a lot when I read a book, I get excited to try everything I’ve read but then forget most of it two weeks later.

It was this idea that sparked me to start BookProf and help others take action on what they read because we all read to improve our lives, right?

So, after reading Think & Grow Rich I decided to put together a plan of action to help solidify what I’d read and to build new habits so that I could actually reap the benefits of everything I had learned.

Below are 14 days of taking action with Think & Grow Rich. Hope you enjoy it.

To start we will briefly hit on all 13 Principles of Napoleon Hill’s. Then we’ll cover the more intricate and fun topics.

Day 1: Statement of Demands

A statement of demands is where you decide what you want from your efforts, when it will arrive, and what you plan to do to get what you want.

For example, I will start BookProf and work on helping people implement what they’ve learned from awesome books by writing great content every day, and working with authors who want to help their fans improve their lives, I will do this for 3 years and by October of 2020 I will be making $25,000 a month.

Instruction: Write your statement of demands and repeat it to yourself day and night.

Tip: I do this by thinking about my SOD in the shower every morning, and falling asleep dreaming about it at night. This helps with routine.

Day 2: Success Comes From Burning Desire

Emotions are a major part of thinking yourself to where you want to be. And a burning desire is the first of principles because “A BURNING DESIRE TO BE, AND TO DO is the starting point from which the dreamer must take off.”

When you think about your venture you must have the burning desire needed to “burn all bridges behind me, and stake my ENTIRE FUTURE on my ability to get what I want.”

This is not for the faint of heart, but it is how hundreds (if not, thousands) of people have become successful over the years.

Instruction: Visualize this desire as you repeat your statement of demands twice a day. If the idea you are working on doesn’t inspire this kind of desire, start considering something that will, because only this desire can bring you to where you want to be.

Day 3: You Must Have Faith in Yourself & Your Idea

This has little to do with religion, yet has everything to do with your belief in yourself and your idea to turn into what you demand. This faith is one of the most powerful emotions you can use in reciting your demands, and it will help your subconscious turn your demands into reality.

Instruction: Starting today, only think of your idea with the utmost faith.

Every time you repeat your demands, say it out of a faith of knowing it will happen. Desire and faith are immensely important to turning your demands into reality and should be felt constantly to help your dream come to fruition.

Even if you lack faith, keep imagining you feel it until it is there, that is the power of autosuggestion.

Day 4: Achieve Anything with Auto-Suggestion

By now you’ve been repeating your SOD every day, twice a day. You are using the exciting tool of autosuggestion, using the power of emotions to suggest what you desire to the Universe to achieve success.

Autosuggestion is super powerful and can be used to control your world. But you must use emotion when you use it. Unfortunately, this means a lot of people use it unknowingly to bring poverty into their lives by auto-suggesting with fear. This is why faith and desire are so important, as they are positive emotions.

“There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge. Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought.”

Instruction: When repeating your SOD, you must envision yourself being successful, see your bank account increased, see yourself enjoying a certain aspect of success that will evoke happy emotions.

For example, use this schedule:

  • Day 5 imagine how you will help others because of your success
  • Day 6 imagine one of the vacations you will take
  • Day 7 imagine being to pay for your child’s first home for them
  • Day 8 see yourself paying off all of your debts
  • Day 9 think about how excited you will be to hire your first employees
  • Day 10 visualize yourself donating a large sum during the next world disaster
  • Day 11 think about hiring a personal chef, trainer, and cleaner
  • Day 12 think about the results your clients or customers will have and how happy they will have been to work with you
  • Day 13 think of all of the electronics, cars, remodels, gifts, etc that you will buy
  • Day 14 imagine the security you will have in finally being successful

As you read these, write down other exciting ideas about your future success and pull from that list when visualizing your success.

Day 5: Knowledge Is Only Potential Power

If you have a formal college education, that’s great, but not everyone does, and not everyone needs it. In fact, knowledge is only potential power, but how it is used is most important.

Several of the people featured in Napoleon Hill’s research had little to no formal education but knew their industries or how to acquire the information they needed.

Instruction: Today you are going to collect your resources. What knowledge will you need to be successful in your industry? How will you find it? With the Internet, you can easily seek out information, but you should know where you plan on learning things.

For example:

  • Will you need to connect with authors like I do? Where would you do that?
  • Will you need to hire a lawyer? Who would you ask?
  • Does your target market have a community? Where is it?
  • Will you need a writer?

Days 6 & 7: The Weekend – Are You Falling Behind?

After 5 days of lessons, it’s the weekend. It’s time to take a break, and just focus on your SOD for the weekend.

Here’s a Summary of the First 5 Days:

Desire is the willingness to burn bridges to get what you want. In order to achieve success, you have to have a strong faith and use it to autosuggest your desires daily while reading your SOD. The ability to quickly access the knowledge necessary is an important skill in seeking success.

Here are a few quotes to inspire you this weekend:

“Success comes to those who become SUCCESS CONSCIOUS.”

“One must realize that all who have accumulated great fortunes, first did a certain amount of dreaming, hoping, wishing, DESIRING, and PLANNING before they acquired money.”

“Only those who become “money conscious” ever accumulate great riches.”

If you do not see great riches in your imagination, you will never see them in your bank balance.”

Day 8: Use Your Imagination

“Ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes”

I LOVE imagination and being creative. This is probably the one thing I’ve learned from Napoleon Hill that has most immediately changed my life.

You need to be creative to visualize what you want before it is physically here. You also need to be creative to handle decision-making, coming up with new ideas for your business, conceiving your business idea in the first place, planning for your success (coming up soon) and several other aspects of success.

Instruction: Start planning time to be creative. Yes, that’s right, plan an hour a week (or more) to sit down with your thoughts, to brainstorm, to work through your business problems, and to let ideas flow.

This has been amazing for me. I use a Rocket Everlast Notebook & Frixion pen and sit and think a few times a week because it is so fruitful for where I’m going. Sol Orwell, a founder of Examine.com recently wrote a blog post and mentioned enjoying taking walks and thinking, this works too.

Do whatever works for you, but PLAN on it, every week, you should spend at least an hour tapping into your creative muscle so that it’s there when you need it. You will not regret this.

Day 9: Plan To Win

“Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.”

It’s hard to know exactly what your future will hold as you work on your idea, stay on top of your SOD, and keep hustling. But you must plan to succeed, that takes the imagination from above, and a bit of help from your mastermind in Day 12.

When you plan, you are sending even more positive vibes to your subconscious, and a plan (even when it does change) gives you the feeling that things are under control and you have a path to follow to get where you want to go.

Instruction: Write it out: What is your plan for success?

Today take the time to sit down and draw up a plan for achieving your success. Include:

  • What struggles do you plan on encountering on the way?
  • What special skills or resources do you have access to?
  • What needs to be done to move to the next phase?

Tip: This is probably going to take a bit of time, so if you have to do it over the upcoming weekend, go ahead. It’s better to be a little late with the exercise than to not get it done at all.

Day 10: Be Decisive In Action

“INDECISION is the seedling of FEAR!”

Since you already know that fear leads to poverty, you want to be very careful of indecision. Through the research Mr. Hill and Andrew Carnegie did, they found that successful people are very decisive. They make decisions and stick with them.

This reminds me of Henry Ford’s decision to continue manufacturing the Model T for years after he was advised to change it. He knew what he wanted to do, and made millions of dollars doing it because of his decisive action.

Instruction: Chances are you are struggling or procrastinating on a decision, but there’s no better way to handle it than to sit down, collect the information, and decide already. Pick any decision you need to make (in regards to your business) and decide today. This will encourage you to do the same in the future.

Day 11: Are You Committed?

When so many options are available (today’s world), it seems easy to just give up and move on. Successful people do NOT do this. What if Mark Zuckerberg gave up when Facebook didn’t grow as quickly as he wanted? What if Google never started because there were already other search engines?

We have to be consistent and commit to our success if we plan on getting there. Do not accept overall failure, keep working at something to succeed.

Instruction: Today I want to reiterate the importance of your Statement of Demands, have you been repeating it every day? This is the first test in persistence. Please take the time today to evaluate how committed you are to your demands, and FIX it! This is non-negotiable.

Day 12: Mastermind

“Great businesses and successes are almost never achieved by oneself alone.”

Two minds working together can almost always achieve more than one person alone. We simply need people to contribute if we are going to be successful.

It’s important to have a quorum of people you can default to when you are struggling with your idea. And starting today you are going to make that happen.

Instruction: Email 10-15 people today who you would like to have in your mastermind. It’s very easy to do, here’s a simple script:

Hello [Dave], I wanted to reach out because I highly respect you and all you’ve accomplished.

Would you please consider joining my new mastermind of success-oriented people?

I would unquestionably value your participation. What do you think?

Days 13 & 14: Weekend- Get Caught Up

One of the issues with having a course like this is that over time you get off track. But you can take the weekend and rededicate yourself to the success process.

Here’s a Summary of the First Two Weeks:

In addition to Desire and Faith, Autosuggestion can help you control your entire life. But when it comes to your successes, you need to be Persistent, Imaginative, have access to Knowledge, have a Plan, be Decisive, and have a Mastermind for support.

Here are a few quotes to inspire you this weekend:

“One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat.”

“No one ever is defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.”

“Our only limitations are those we set up in our own minds.”

“No two minds ever come together without, thereby, creating a third, invisible, intangible force which may be likened to a third mind.”

What Do You Think?

The idea behind creating this is to help people implement what they’ve learned.
